An Interview with Adam Pascal

Yes, I am a grown man and am able to pretend that I am mature and down to earth most of the time, but right now I am very giddy about the Friday, January 8, 2021 episode of my radio show It’s Showtime with Rikki Lee in which I get to interview one of my idols – Broadway icon Adam Pascal.

Most people are aware of Adam from his Tony-nominated performance as Roger in the Jonathan Larson musical Rent and his reprisal of the role in the 2005 film adaptation by director Chris Columbus. Broadway fans will also recognize Adam from his starring roles in Aida, Cabaret, Chicago, Disaster!, Memphis, Something Rotten, and Pretty Woman.

I remember seeing Adam perform for the first time. The year was 1997, I was brought to New York when I was being considered to replace Adam in the Broadway cast of Rent. While I was there, the casting directors arranged for me to see one of Adam’s performances. I was floored by his amazing voice and charisma. I’ve been a fan ever since. To even be considered in the same vocal category with Adam was an honor. I’m not sure I deserve it, but it’s an honor all the same.

Although I had seven call backs, I never made the Broadway cast of Rent. But that doesn’t keep me from being a fan of the show and a fan of Adam. I am so thrilled that Adam is willing to spend some time with me and my listeners.

For our interview, Adam and I will discuss how he got started in the industry, what he’s learned over the course of his career, what he teaches in his one-on-one lessons and master classes, and how he approaches character development – whether that be for originating a role or coming in as a replacement. You really don’t want to miss this episode.
