Overturning Roe v. Wade – Whose Opinion Matters?

I have held off on commenting about the information coming out that the Supreme Court is preparing to rule in a landmark decision, overturning Roe v. Wade.

It’s not that I don’t have a position on the issue, but the fact is this decision is about whether or not a woman has a right over her own body.

I am not a woman. It’s none of my business what a woman decides regarding her own body.

So, I haven’t commented. Until now.

Now I am going to comment.

I’m still not a woman. Overturning Roe v. Wade is still a draconian assault on a woman’s right to govern her own body. None of that has changed.

It’s still none of my damn business.

But a lot of other people seem to think it’s their business, when they really shouldn’t. So, these comments are directed at them.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion – including on the topic of abortion. Here’s what you are entitled to do with that opinion:

If you are opposed to abortion, don’t get one.

That’s it.

You should be able to do what you want with your own body.

Everyone deserves that freedom of choice. Not just you.

You should NOT be able to tell other people what to do with their bodies.

The level of tragedy of someone’s story of why they want an abortion does not matter.

Nobody’s reasons are for you to judge but your own.

So, to recap:

Your body, your choice.

Somebody else’s body, not your choice.

That’s it.

Overturning Roe v. Wade is a crime in many ways.

It is a minority of religious zealots imposing their religious views on others – specifically women. It is taking away the most fundamental of a person’s rights: to make decisions about their own bodies.

There is no plan to tell men what they can and can’t do with their bodies. This is about controlling women.

Every Supreme Court nominee since the Roe v. Wade ruling in 1973 has been asked their position on the case during confirmation hearings. Justices John Roberts, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito all indicated that the case was precedent, and they had no agenda to overrule it.

To now make a sweeping drastic overruling of the very tenets of human rights law seems to make their assurances reek of perjury.

According to the latest polls from NBC News, nearly two-thirds of all Americans oppose overturning Roe v. Wade.

The one and only solution we have at this juncture is to vote with Roe v. Wade as the only factor to consider in November.

That means even if your parents and their parents before them all voted Republican in the past, if the issue of a woman’s right to govern her own body matters to you at all – then vote Democrat.

No other issue matters.

Peace. Love. Trust.
